Welcome to Canada!

30 december 2017 - Toronto, Canada

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since my last blog from Indonesia, but now I will try to keep you updated from Canada! I left just two days ago and now spending some time in Toronto, Ontario. After the first week I will move to Hamilton to study at McMaster University during the winter term, with 19 other MSc Global Health student from Maastricht University.

But first, Toronto! With a small group of 6 Dutch students we decided to celebrate NYE's in downtown Toronto and what a great idea was that! I immediately fell in love with the city when I arrived at Union train station. It's such a great city! I know I should not compare Canada with America, but the city feels like a smaller and less stressful New York. However, I might think like that of every city here as all the buildings are incredibly high but you can never loose your way with the block system when it comes to the streets. Also a big pro for Toronto are the people living in the city. As I arrived by myself I had no clue where I had to go to, to find the hostel. But when asking a local, he did not only told me which way to go, but he explained me the whole road system and some tricks for knowing where you are in the city. He even came back when the conversation was over and parted our ways to wish me a happy new year!

Because of my jetlag, I was trying to stay awake until a decent time so I convinced myself to go outside. - After the 15 minutes walk with my suitcases the cold did not impress me that bad apparently - So, I went outside to find myself a toothbrush (you think you have everything packed..) and all of a sudden I find myself in this huge shopping mall! - Okay, I might have looked it up on Google Maps first - Luckily for my wallet, it was close to closing time and I only bought a toothbrush and some dinner. However, finding a healthy meal was a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. But a salad it was.

Today, I'll probably go to the Ikea as I need a blanket and pillows for my bed in Hamilton. Also, the last 3 of the 6 are arriving today and we will of course be at the station to welcome them in this awesome city! I'll keep you updated and share what activities we will do the next couple of days. For tonight the key word is 'pancakes', can't wait for that.

Write to you later!

Lots of love,

Eva
